Jackie Robinson Day is a traditional event that always occurs annually in Major League Baseball, commemorating and honoring the day Jackie Robinson made his major league debut. April 15 was Opening Day in 1947, Robinson's first season in the Major Leagues. It was started the first time on April 15, 2004. Robinson became the first African-American in the major leagues playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers by breaking the color barrier. Big league players and uniformed personnel have been asked to wear the late Hall of Famer's famous No. 42 on the field when the 30 teams celebrate the occasion. This day is important because it is a culture change for baseball as a whole and society.
